#Cupiddrone is in the air!

This is how love, romance, advertising and technology meet! An inspiring idea for the St. Valentine’s day commercial. Flower retailer www.mooiwatbloemendoen.nl unleashes its Cupid drone on unsuspecting lovebirds in Verona, Italy,  just in time for Valentine’s Day. The romantic experience was a stunt to promote one of the Flower Council of Holland’s consumer brands, in advance of Valentine’s Day, and was devised by Amsterdam agency Kingsday. The agency has experience with the stealth delivery of flowers—last year it placed boxes of roses under glass with instructions to break in an emergency around Paris, should the need for a chivalrous gesture unexpectedly arise—but this effort was meant invigorate the notion of spreading love. “Last year we spread roses by emergency boxes. So this year we were looking for new logistics,” says creative director Bram de Rooij of the idea for “Love is in the Air,” which will be distributed in the...

Valentine’s Day on Facebook

Over 1 million US users changed their relationship status within four days of Valentine’s Day in 2014. Singles talked about sex the most on the day, while men in open relationships and women in domestic partnerships did the opposite. And 64% of women, and 68% of men, start planning for the day a week in advance or sooner. To get you ready for the next big event on the real-time marketing hit list, Facebook’s created an infographic packed with stats about how people fête the big day on the Facebook pages. They say you can’t buy love, but that certainly didn’t stop Americans from spending an estimated $17.3 billion on Valentine’s Day last year. Year after year, people declare their love on Cupid’s holiday through last-minute gifts, heartfelt messages and a remarkable number of marriage proposals. On Facebook, Valentine’s Day is not just for couples. True, it is the place...

Digital Destiny: How the New Age of Data Will Change the Way We Live, Work, and Communicate

This month Shawn Dubravac, chief economist and senior director of research at the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), released a perfectly timed book called “Digital Destiny” and has been speaking frequently about the trends that will change the world of technology and consumer behavior  in the coming year. One of his predictions is that the “Internet of things, making objects smart and connected, will give way to the Internet of Me” where this connection of things will relay data about your usage in order to inform behavior change or action in the real world. In Digital Destiny: How the New Age of Data Will Change the Way We Live, Work, and Communicate, Shawn DuBravac, argues that the groundswell of digital ownership unfolding in our lives signals the beginning of a new era for humanity. Beyond just hardware acquisition, the next decade will be defined by an all-digital lifestyle and the “Internet of...

Pepsi marks the arrival of a new year with the astonishing film

Pepsi Max created a stunning commercial, featuring a chain reaction of 2,014 mousetraps and 2,015 ping pong balls. The idea for the online film, for Pepsi Max, was inspired by science teachers who use of mouse traps to demonstrate the basics of nuclear fission. The impact was heightened by staging the stunt within a mirrored tunnel. The mouse traps took almost 5 hours to set up leaving the 42-strong production team little leeway if things went wrong. The end result captured in a single take lasting just 15 seconds in real time.

Global book club – a new marketing exercise for Facebook

Over the weekend, Facebook CEO Mark  Zuckerberg invited  Facebook members to join him in his New Year’s resolution to read a new book every other week. “My challenge for 2015 is to read a new book every other week — with an emphasis on learning about different cultures, beliefs, histories and technologies.” – announced Mark at his Facebook page on January 03, 2015. Mark Zuckerberg’s global book club  is off to a roaring start: as of today  it reportedly has more than 90,000 members. The book club has, of course, a Facebook discussion page. It’s members have already made thousands of suggestions for future reading material, including votes for the Bible and the Koran, the Book of Mormon, and Revolution by Russell Brand. Instead, Mr Zuckerberg’s first choice was “The End of Power”, a 320-page non-fiction tome by Moisés Naím. Mr Zuckerberg wrote that the book “explores how the world is shifting to give individual people more power...
