Now you can see the exact month, day and year your images and videos were posted on Instagram. Every social media manager I know is doing cartwheels over this update. To see your timestamps, simply go to the App Store and update to the latest version of Instagram. You should have version 7.17.1 or later. Prior to now, Instagram only showed the number of weeks it had been since the videos or photos were posted. Now, instead of “52w” at the top right corner of the post, the full date (4 February or November 25, 2015, for example) is listed under the comments. This is a very valuable update for online marketers and those who work in the marketing industry. When we’re tracking data or pulling information for clients and projects we need to know the exact date then it was posted. Knowing that something happened 52 weeks ago is pretty useless. An exact...

The Most Social Astronaut Scott Kelly Returns Safely to Earth after One-Year Mission. Scott Kelly landed in Kazakhstan at 11:26 p.m. EST (10:26 a.m. March 2, 2016 Kazakhstan time), on a capsule carrying two other companions from the International Space Station: Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko, who also spent 340 days in space, and Sergey Volkov, another Russian cosmonaut who has been in space for five and a half months. During this time, Kelly has shared with the public an unprecedented view of what he’s seen while rotating Earth aboard the International Space Station. Before Kelly went up for his mission, the astronaut was given direct order from President Barack Obama during the 2015 State of the Union address: “Make sure to Instagram it.” The result of that order? Kelly soon became an expert social-media user, uploading awesome images of high quality photography nearly every day to Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook. The astronaut...

As a Social Media Manager, posting to Instagram is part of daily work. Before now, that meant signing out of my personal account in order to sign into the account for work, which is not only inconvenient but also a little anxiety-inducing—the ease with which I might accidentally post to the wrong account is all too scary a possibility. My clients’ 10K followers do not need to see my latest selfie with a new hairstyle. Finally, Instagram is making our social media-addled lives a little bit easier. With the latest update, the app is introducing a new feature that allows users to toggle between multiple accounts without logging in and out. Instagram Now Offers Multiple Account Support Currently, the feature appears to be in beta testing mode and only available to a limited number of Android users. Instagram has not said whether this feature will be expanding, or when it...

Social media has changed the lives of people around the world. Lets just stop for a moment and look at how different it is from ten or even five years ago. In the last decade, social media has significantly transformed most of our daily lives. Remember using a telephone landline instead of Skype, address book instead of Facebook, business card holder instead of LinkedIn? Social media has changed not only how we interact with one another but also how we do business. Not integrating social media into company’s traditional marketing activities nowadays is like starting a business without telling anyone. Surprisingly, there are still organizations who are not taking full advantage of what social media marketing can do for their brand. Sometimes the social media team is soloed, outsourced, or even non-existent. But the only way to fully harness the power of social media marketing is to put it on...

Instagram has officially switched on its advertising API (application programming interface). It’s a major move for the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app that will almost immediately help transform it into a major mobile advertising business to rival Google and Twitter. The third-party partners now plugging their software into the API made a coordinated announcement about their involvement on Tuesday morning. By opening up an API to partners, marketers can now — for the first time — start buying Instagram ads and planning their Instagram marketing in a more automated fashion, alongside their other digital ad buys on Facebook or Twitter. Before, buying Instagram ads was an exceptional case in the media plan that required contacting an Instagram sales representative directly. That meant Instagram advertising was mostly limited to those willing to make big investments in both budget and time. Starting soon all advertisers can plan Instagram campaigns alongside their other digital ads...

Hashtags are a prominent part of Social Media Network today. Hashtag: A word or phrase preceded by a hash mark (#), used within a message to identify a keyword or topic of interest and facilitate a search for it. The hashtag is likely the most popular means of categorizing content on social media. It makes your own content discoverable and allows you to find relevant content from other people and businesses. The hashtag also allows you to connect with and engage other social media users based on a common theme or interest. So whenever you add a hashtag to your post, it is immediately indexed by...
